● Project overview

The road lighting and stream landscape lighting after restoring Cheonggyecheon as natural stream by demolishing overpass and covering was installed in the form of nature-friendly and efficient lighting to secure stability of maintenance and operation.

● Lighting display

(1) Basic direction of landscape lighting
- New challenge, beginning of change
Cheonggyecheon has been changed in many shapes in the history. Although it has embraced various lives of Seoul citizens, the meaning has been forgotten by modern people. The restoration of the forgotten Cheonggyecheon is a meaningful project as a starting point of this change.
The night landscape plan will be the starting point to provide the first night environment image to the modern people along with the newly renovated street environment.

- Variety in Unification ?
Harmony of various shapes
The theme of the view lighting plan of Cheonggye Restoration Project is to form its identity in the city through a consistent night image throughout Cheonggye River and to emphasize on its characteristics divided by each region in a unified flow.


- Eco-friendly and comfortable night view lighting plan that complies with the view concept-Nature in the city.
- Form a stable and unified identity contrasting its surrounding environment of various shapes
- It has been changed to exciting space through the unique night landscape display emphasizing historical and regional characteristics

● Concept of the Section 2

"Green Line where light flows"

(a) Nature-friendly lighting harmonized with surrounding environment
- The target space where various characteristics are included is planned to apply nature-friendly night landscape lighting compliant to regional and cultural image of the surrounding area.

(b) Recognize historical importance of the surrounding area through zoning of light
- Consider to use it as tourism resources through the light zoning with the region which has historical value. Use it as environmental assistance tool to make the importance recognizable.

(c) Raise the night usage of the Cheonggyecheon which has been restored to convenient night environment
- Raise the usage degree as rest area in the night with the lighting plan causing excitement and friendliness

(d) Consideration for tourists and users
- Apply image which gives closeness and liveliness to the city by reviving the characteristics of the space where cultural diversity (shopping street, history and future-oriented urban image) can be experienced
